FAQ
How does a proportional tip split work?
Each person tips on their own share of the bill. If the bill is $100, you ate $10, and the tip is 20%, you tip $2 and pay $12. Someone who ate $90 tips $18 and pays $108.
Can each person leave a different tip?
Yes. Start from the table’s default percent, then change anyone’s tip in dollars or percent. Their change only affects what they owe — it doesn’t raise or lower anyone else’s tip.
What if our shares don’t add up to the bill?
That usually means tax, a shared appetizer, or a missing item. The calculator still shows each person’s tip and total, and the status line tells you how far off the shares are from the bill.
What about a service charge already on the bill?
A service charge often replaces a tip. Check the receipt — if gratuity is already included, you may not need to add more. You can set the tip percent to 0% or leave a smaller custom tip for exceptional service.

How do we settle up with Venmo or cash?

Is tip calculated on pre-tax or post-tax?
Either works — enter whatever number you’re tipping on as the bill and each share. Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal; others use the full receipt for simpler rounding.
