Recipe Converter – Kitchen Measurements & Serving Scale

Convert cups, spoons, and metric measures — or scale a recipe up or down by servings.

Mode

Converted amount

Recipes jump between cups, tablespoons, milliliters, and grams — and half the time you also need fewer or more servings than the author wrote for. This recipe converter does both: convert kitchen measurements, or scale an amount by servings, with results that update as you type.

Convert mode turns one US cooking or metric unit into another within the same category (volume or weight). Scale mode multiplies your amount by new servings ÷ original servings so you can adapt a 4-serving recipe for 6 without redoing the ratios by hand.

Math runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. For baking, treat conversions as a cooking aid and prefer gram weights from the recipe when precision matters. Need percent math for discounts or markups? Try the Percentage Calculator.

How to use

  1. Choose Convert to change units, or Scale to adjust for servings.
  2. Enter the amount from your recipe.
  3. In Convert mode, pick from and to units (both volume or both weight), or tap swap.
  4. In Scale mode, set the original servings and the servings you want.
  5. Read the result as it updates — no submit button needed.

Tips

  • This tool uses US customary cup and spoon sizes. A US cup is about 237 ml — not the same as a metric cup (250 ml).
  • Volume and weight are different. A cup of flour does not weigh the same as a cup of sugar, so don’t convert cups to grams without an ingredient chart.
  • When you scale a recipe, multiply every ingredient by the same factor — wet and dry alike — so ratios stay the same.
  • For baking, weigh ingredients when you can; volume scoops vary with how packed the ingredient is.

FAQ

How many milliliters are in a US cup?

One US cup is about 237 ml (exactly 236.588 ml in the standard used here). A metric cup is usually 250 ml, so check which your recipe means.

How do I convert tablespoons to cups?

There are 16 US tablespoons in 1 US cup. Enter your tablespoon amount, set From to Tablespoon and To to Cup, and the converter shows the cup amount instantly.

Can I convert cups to grams?

Not with a single factor — grams measure weight and cups measure volume. Flour, sugar, and butter all weigh different amounts per cup. Use a volume unit for liquids and a weight unit for weighed ingredients, or look up an ingredient-specific chart.

How do I scale a recipe from 4 servings to 6?

Switch to Scale mode, enter one ingredient amount, set original servings to 4 and new servings to 6. The tool multiplies by 6 ÷ 4 (1.5×). Repeat for each ingredient, or apply the same factor by hand.

What’s the difference between fluid ounces and ounces?

Fluid ounces (fl oz) measure volume; ounces (oz) measure weight. Use fluid ounces with cups and milliliters, and ounces with pounds and grams.

Is this precise enough for baking?

It’s accurate for US/metric unit math and handy for home cooking. For critical baking, prefer a kitchen scale and the recipe author’s gram weights when provided.
